On June 19, 2024, the conference "Building Healthcare Resilience in Africa," organized by Afrika-Verein Veranstaltungs-GmbH, occurred in Frankfurt am Main. Held at the Hilton, Frankfurt City Centre, this event brought together leaders and experts from the healthcare sector to discuss innovative strategies and essential collaborations for strengthening health systems in Africa. The conference was conducted in English and French and featured parallel sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.


Key Highlights and Parallel Sessions


The day began with a breakfast focused on women in health, followed by an opening session providing an overview of the healthcare sector in Africa. A key highlight was the importance of strategic partnerships between corporations, startups, NGOs, governments, and local communities to improve healthcare services.


Parallel sessions addressed critical topics such as non-communicable diseases (NCDs), maternal and child health, and healthcare infrastructure. Discussions covered the challenges and investment opportunities in these areas, as well as the crucial role of digitalization and new technologies in expanding and improving healthcare services.




Women and Child Health


Martina Möllers, CEO of Marti Connecting Africa, moderated a key session on women and child health, focusing on private-sector collaboration to enhance healthcare infrastructure and community initiatives. This session explored how the private sector's efficiency, innovation, and resources can be leveraged to achieve sustainable improvements in maternal and child health in Africa.

 

The event also included a discussion on financing and investing in healthcare projects, examining successful examples and business models that have proven effective and should be scaled. The conference concluded with site visits to key locations such as Hospital Northwest (Krankenhaus Nordwest)  and a pharmaceutical company, providing African delegates with practical insights into innovations and collaborations in the healthcare sector.
